IRENE WARNER

The CBF was saddened to hear of the death of Irene Warner of Toronto on January 11, 2007. Irene was a long time bridge volunteer in Unit 166 and District 2. Irene served as Executive Secretary of the CBF from 1982 to 1986.

In 2004, Irene was the recipient of the Kate Buckman Award "in recognition of the person who contributes most to others enjoyment of bridge", honouring her for more than 25 years of service to the bridge community. Irene joined the ACBL in 1975 and quickly established a reputation as a tireless volunteer and efficient administrator. She served as secretary to the 1978, 1992, and 2001 Toronto Summer NABCs. From 1979 until the present, she has been the backbone of unit 166 and District 2 in her capacity as Secretary. She was also the Executive Secretary for the Canadian Bridge Federation from 1982-1986.

For more than 15 years, Irene has been at the Toronto partnership desk helping to put together bridge champions! She also helped out with hospitality and served on the local planning committee for the World Junior Bridge Championships in Hamilton in 1997.

Peacefully, at the Toronto East General Hospital on January 11, 2007. Irene was an active member of many bridge organizations and was secretary to the ACBL. Retired from the Fraser and Beatty Law Firm. Lovingly remembered by brothers Bill Catton and Don Catton and families. Loved by daughter Lynn and husband Hong Mark and grandchildren Jeremy, Tiffany, Andrew and Kevin. Will be missed by her bridge partners and community. Friends will be received at the McDougall & Brown ''SCARBOROUGH CHAPEL'', 2900 Kingston Road (east of St. Clair Avenue E.) on Sunday January 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with Funeral Service held on Monday January 15 at 1 p.m. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a humanitarian charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
