CBF INTERNATIONAL FUND CALCUTTA 1) TITLE: CBF International Fund Calcutta. 2) OBJECTIVE: To raise money for the Fund which provides subsidy to teams that represent Canada in International events. 3) DATES + TIMES: Auction: Fri., July 9th, 9pm (during reception) 2 Sessions, Sat, July 10th, 11:30 + 6:00 (The day before the start of Bridge Week). 4) PLACE: Doubles Duplicate Bridge Studio (phone 416-590-0404) 5801 Yonge St., Toronto HOTEL: Holiday Inn Yorkdale (416-789-6843) 3450 Dufferin Street, Toronto 1-800-HOLIDAY (Mention: CANADIAN BRIDGE TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS to get $99 rate) 5) ELIGIBILITY: Open to all players. Players in other Bridge Week events are encouraged to enter. This is a high level event. The CBF reserves the right to deny entry of a pair that is felt does not meet the quality, ethical,or deportment standards to play at this level. 6) ENTRY PROCEDURE: Pairs should apply in writing by July 2nd, including a cheque for $150 made payable to "CBF 1999 Calcutta" sent to: Eric Sutherland at address at the end of this document. A $25 PENALTY WILL BE CHARGED FOR NSF CHEQUES. Any entry received after that date may be denied if space is not available or if the running of the event would be adversely affected. If space is available, entries may be accepted up to 8:00 pm, July 9th at the Auction site. ENTRY FEES PAID AFTER JULY 2ND MUST BE PAID IN CASH OR CERTIFIED CHEQUE. 7) RECEPTION: A reception will be held before the Auction 8) PLAYERS POOL: The entry fees, minus the expenses will be paid out as cash prizes to the top 20% overall placings in each of the 2 sessions. There will be no payout, in this pool, to final overall placings. In each session, say if there are 30 pairs, the top 6 pairs overall in each session will get cash prizes. A 6th place finish in 1 session should win $150. Payouts will be announced at the start of play. 9) AUCTION RULES: There will be a minimum opening bid of $300. Pairs are not obliged to bid on themselves at all, but they have the right to buy back up to 50% of themselves based on their auction value. Pairs not purchased will go into the "field" pool which will be auctioned off to the highest bidder at the end of the auction. Pairs in the "field" MUST pay $150 to acquire one half of themselves. Payment for pairs bought must be made immediately after purchase or no later than after the conclusion of the auction. Cartels (or bidding groups) are encouraged. Payment may be made by cash or cheque. THE EVENT RESTS ON THE GOOD FAITH AND HONESTY OF THE PARTICIPANTS, AND SO WE EXPECT ALL PARTICIPANTS TO MEET THEIR FINANCIAL COMMITTMENTS. AN NSF CHEQUE COULD JEOPARDIZE THE PERSON'S STANDING WITH THE CBF AND ACBL AND CONSTRAIN THE PERSON'S ABILITY TO PARTICIPATE IN FUTURE CBF EVENTS AT ANY LEVEL OR REPRESENT CANADA. TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS AND THEIR FAMILIES MAY NOT MAY NOT OWN ANY INTEREST IN A PAIR. 10) AUCTION PAYOUT: 85% of the auction pool minus the reception expenses will be paid out to the owners of the top 25% of the field as they are placed at the end of the event. The other 15% of this pool will go to the CBF International Fund. For example, if we go to 7 places the payout could be 36%, 21%, 16%, 10%, 8%, 5%, 4%. Payout percentages will be declared before the auction starts. Payout amounts will be announced before play starts. Payout would take place after all cheques have cleared, in all likelihood within 2-4 weeks of the event. 11)EXPENSES: The expenses of running the game will be deducted from the Players Pool and the reception expenses will be deducted from the Auction Pool. Game expenses include items such as room rental, Director's expenses, caddies etc. Every effort will be made to keep expenses reasonable. 12)CONDITIONS OF CONTEST: A) Scoring: IMP scoring compared to a datum arrived at by deducting the top 2 and bottom 2 scores and then averaging. B) Seeding: The field will be seeded based on the price that the pairs were bought for. The "field pairs" will be the lowest seeds and be randomly distributed through the sections. C) Movement: Every attempt will be made to have a complete round robin, but if there are too many pairs, this may not be possible. D) TIME OF PLAY: 8.5 minutes per board will be allowed and this will be STRICTLY ENFORCED. ACBL rules on late play will be used. E) Bidding boxes and screens will be in use. F) Conventions and Carding: Only Conventions and carding that are on the General Chart will be allowed. G) Conduct and Ethics: A Conduct and Ethics Committee will be appointed prior to game time. ACBL Conduct and Ethics Guidelines and penalties will apply. H) Appeals: THERE WILL BE NO APPEALS. THE RULING OF THE DIRECTORS WILL BE FINAL. I) Dress code: will be in effect. No jeans, sport jacket preferred for men. J) Smoking: This will be a non-smoking event, with smoke breaks provided. K) Director: A top ranked Director will be in charge. If the size of the event warrants an extra Director may be used. L) Security: HANDS MAY NOT BE DISCUSSED DURING BREAKS FROM THE TABLE.
