2001 CNTC-B CHAMPIONSHIP

Montreal - The semi-final match between Petrick and LaSante moved along at a steady pace, with Lasante winning 3 out of 4 quarters but not by enough - in the end Petrick won the semis 140-122.

The match between Castonguay and N.Gordon was not nearly so tame. Tossing results back and forth throughout, the teams were in a dead tie at the end of the thrid quarter. But what's this? A final quarter score of 92 vs 1 for N.Gordon? That's what my reporter has written, and that is what we publish. Its N. Gordon over Castonguay 202 - 111. Boy would I like to hear about some of those hands!

Petrick had played strongly throughout the round robin and continued that approach in the Finals of the first ever CNTC-B. What an honor to be the first champions in a brand new National Event! Ahead 47 at the half ... will it be enough?

Gordon narrowed the gap by 9 in the 3rd quarter but Petrick surged ahead in the end to win 192 - 127.
